A NOTE FROM HANNA: This piece was initially inspired by powerful women standing tall in typically masculine roles. We set out to combine a love of westerns, eastern martial arts, macabre humor, a collective fear of the dentist, and to highlight the bitterly timeless prevalence of violence against women, as well as a decline in stewardship of our planet. And what began as a lone wolf badass punishing those who violate her code of conduct (she never strikes until attacked), wound up with another message our hero had to face. Once the adrenaline drained and her daily toil finished, she is faced with the heavy burden of her own humanity and forced to question if she can justify the blood on her hands with her daily battle to survive the inevitable. We leave remembering that innocence is worth fighting for. The animal companions, children, and future we painstakingly raise, will always be worth the fight, however bleak the horizon seems.
